One of the best places to enjoy all of that is the city of Santa Marta. Located on the Northern Caribbean coast, Santa Marta has it all, from historic Colonial architecture and a vibrant downtown area to luxury beachfront resorts and great outdoor activities.
A visit to Santa Marta is not complete without taking a boat ride along the shores of Tayrona National Park. There, you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling in pristine coastal lagoons surrounded by the lush green foothills of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. If you have an extra day or two to spend in this beautiful area, you may consider taking a hike to some of the ancient ruins in the park left by the Tayrona civilization.
After getting to know Santa Marta, you can continue exploring the nearby city of Barranquilla, then continue further along the coast and visit Cartagena.
